In response, the four Akron, Ohio natives created a masterful fusion of punk rock and proto-electronic music well ahead of its time. Devo’s theory was conveniently supported by the parallel rise of disco culture. They did so by spreading devolution, the all-too-believable theory that mankind is actually growing less intelligent.
